Important Update: Australia’s New Employer-Sponsored Visa

The Australian Government has replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa with the Skills in Demand visa.

There are a few points to streamline and modernise employer-sponsored migration.

Key Updates:

• Three Streams:
  • Specialist Skills: For professionals earning $135,000+ (excluding trades)
  • Core Skills: Broad range of skilled roles, including trades
  • Labour Agreement: For employers with existing government agreements
  • Reduced Experience Requirement: Now only 1 year of relevant work experience needed (down from 2 years)
• Faster Processing:
  • Specialist Skills: 7 days
  • Core Skills: 21 days

Implications for Accountants:

• Accounting remains eligible under the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
• Employer eligibility: Must have 5+ employees and $1M+ annual turnover
• Clerical and bookkeeping roles are excluded
